Day 33: Check Out the Martin Luther King Jr. Day Parade

The Martin Luther King Jr. Day Parade takes place tomorrow at 1 p.m. The Martin Luther King Jr. Day Parade begins on Fifth Avenue at 61st Street, and continues north along Fifth Avenue to 86th Street. There are a variety of marchers, floats and marching bands in the Martin Luther King Jr. Day Parade. What became the Martin Luther King Jr. Day Parade first began in Harlem in 1959 to honor war dead. The parade was moved to Fifth Avenue in 1964, and dedicated to Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. after his assassination in 1968. Over 25,000 people participate in the Martin Luther King Jr. Day Parade in New York City each year.
